Seed of Chucky

Review

This movie was shockingly good, like who would have thought a movie titled after a doll’s cum would actually be a solid comedy. It really sounds fake but Seed of Chucky (2004) delivers as a comedy with horror elements. It’s meta, it’s stupid, it’s dramatic, it’s gross, and that how it should be.

Seed of Chucky is about Chucky’s child Shitface/Glen/Glenda who sees Chucky and Tiffany on the TV and goes out in search of them from Britain. Once they reunite with their parents Chucky and Tiffany decide to find bodies to possess from Hollywood and to get an actress pregnant so that Glen/Glenda can have a body too. They settle on possessing Jennifer Tilly and Redman and obviously hijinks ensue. The movie ends with Chucky deciding that he is a killer doll and he should be proud of it, refusing to possess someone and become human again, while Tiffany goes ahead with the plan and possesses Jennifer Tilly, with Glen/Glenda possesses the children.

I’ve heard a lot of about this movie, mostly bad, and I found myself a little shocked to find that I disagreed with a lot of this criticism. If you’re watching fucking Seed of Chucky expecting a good, thought-provoking movie you’re simply a fucking idiot, it’s fucking doll cum.

With that being said, I thought Glen/Glenda was a delight, they’re so silly and I just want them to have the happy family that they deserve. Chucky and Tiffany are just as wonderful as always, they’re horror staples and have some of the most consistent characters within the genre and they’re great every time. Jennifer Tilly as herself is amazing, she kind of reminds me of Elvira with the way she makes a joke out of herself, it’s great. Redman wasn’t the best actor but overall he was fine, that random british chick felt so irrelevant, and the driver was just a failed attempt at adding emotion to the doll cum movie. So I would say that this movie had solid characters.

The story is a little batshit, you try to explain it and you’re just going to get blank confused faces, maybe a little bit of disgust, but I think it works in the movie’s favor as a comedy just for the silliness factor.

This movie has great, impressive gore. Seeing John Waters’ face get melted off by sulfuric acid was very fun and the fact that the picture kept showing up shows that they were very proud of the makeup effects for that kill, which honestly is how they should feel about it.

Overall, this movie is so much fun, you have to watch this in a group cause it makes it so much better with friends. This movie isn’t thought provoking, it’s not actually that good, but it’s so fun and definitely worth a watch if you’re a fan of the series
